MANAGED LIGHTNING PROTECTION COMPLIANCE — ALWAYS CERTIFIED, ALWAYS INSURED
Lightning protection inspection obligations under BS EN 62305 are ongoing and recurring. A lapsed inspection certificate can invalidate your building insurance cover for lightning events and create an unacceptable compliance gap. The CCR Annual Lightning Protection Compliance Programme ensures your system is inspected, tested, and certified on schedule every year — without exception.
Under BS EN 62305, lightning protection systems must be inspected at intervals determined by the LPL classification — from annually for the highest-risk structures to every four years for lower-risk classifications. In practice, CCR Maintenance Ltd recommends annual inspection for all commercial and industrial structures as best practice under ISO 9001 quality management, and as the position most defensible to insurers in the event of a lightning event.
The CCR Lightning Protection Annual Compliance Programme manages the full inspection lifecycle: scheduling, mobilisation, inspection, earth resistance testing, SPD condition check, certification, and asset register maintenance. Where a strike event occurs between scheduled inspections, Premium programme clients receive priority post-strike inspection response.

Inspection frequency is determined by the LPL classification under BS EN 62305-2. LPL I structures require annual full testing. LPL II annual visual and 24-monthly full test. LPL III and IV have longer intervals but CCR Maintenance Ltd recommends annual inspection for all commercial and industrial structures as best practice and the most defensible position for insurance purposes.
Determined by a formal risk assessment under BS EN 62305-2, considering building height, usage, location, occupancy, and contents. Not all buildings require a full LPS but all benefit from a competent risk assessment to confirm the position and document the decision — particularly for insurance and CDM Health and Safety File purposes.
A full BS EN 62305-3 inspection covers visual examination of all air termination rods, down conductors, test clamps, earth termination systems, and bonding connections, followed by calibrated earth resistance testing. A full report and compliance certificate documenting all measurements and findings is issued on completion.
Yes. CCR Maintenance Ltd specialises in rooftop compliance on heritage and listed buildings. All installations carried out in accordance with BS EN 62305 and with due regard for planning and listed building consent requirements. Our heritage cleaning and restoration expertise means we work regularly on sensitive structures.
BS EN 62305-4 addresses protection of electrical and electronic systems from lightning electromagnetic impulse (LEMP). Surge protective devices (SPDs) are installed at key points in the electrical installation to prevent voltage surges destroying sensitive equipment. CCR Maintenance Ltd advises on and installs coordinated SPD protection as part of a complete lightning protection solution.
BS 6651 was withdrawn and replaced by BS EN 62305 in 2008. Existing BS 6651 systems are not automatically non-compliant but should be assessed against current requirements. CCR Maintenance Ltd carries out legacy system assessments and advises on the most proportionate upgrade path to bring the system into full BS EN 62305 compliance.
